Obituary of Carl Robert Frantz, Jr.
Carl Robert Frantz, Jr.
“Bob”
Carl Robert Frantz, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital. Carl was born in Berwyn, IL, on October 20, 1947, to the union of Carl and Bertha (nee Gibson) Frantz. He was a graduate of Lincoln-Way High School. Carl proudly served our country in the United States Army, with the 34th Scout Dog PLT, during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Bronze Star Medal and an Air Medal.
After 32 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2002 from SBC as a Fiber Optics Technician. He was proud to be a member of the War Dog Handlers and the American Legion Post #1080. Carl put his carpentry skills to work and stayed busy around the house; he could build or fix anything. He enjoyed cooking and traveling with his wife after his retirement, but what he loved the most, was spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him, and will truly be missed.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Shirley; his children, Kelly (Jay), Eric (Diana), Jennifer (Dustin) and Carl (Alyssa); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his siblings, Carol and Jody (Ben); mother-in-law, Amelia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded by his parents, and his father-in-law, Joseph.
