Age 95, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Inn at Willow Falls, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Ozone Park, Queens, New York, on October 18, 1922, to the union of August and Emilie (nee Menzel) Kuempel. Ruth worked at Whitley's Bridal House, Deaton Kennedy, and was a pin up girl at the Navy Yards, where she met her husband, James Patrick. Ruth could be seen around town driving her convertible and was always dressed to impress. Her love for fashion and design was apparent throughout her beautiful home. Always gracious, she was the first to offer a cold beer upon entering her home. She enjoyed playing card games such as euchre, pinochle and double solitaire. Above all, Ruth's love for her family outshone everything. She was the happiest when she was spending time with her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her devoted daughter, Bonnie Seme; her grandchildren, Alfred B. Chidsey III, and Andrea Beth Alberico; great grandchildren, William Andrew Alberico, Jacob James Alberico, and Isabelle Ruth Alberico; one sister Lorrie (Bill) Markley; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Patrick McNichols (2007); her parents; four sisters; two brothers; and her first husband, Francis Bick.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, caregivers, and the nurses at the Inn at Willow Falls, especially April and Chinwe, and Joliet Area Community Hospice for all of their love and care shown to Ruth, especially her nurse, Cynthia.
Funeral Services for Ruth J. McNichols will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to the St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
