Obituary of Michael Anton Murer
Michael Anton Murer, age 74, a resident of Homer Glen, Chicago, and Begur, Spain, raised in Joliet, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 30, 2018 with his loving family by his side.
Born September 3, 1943 in Joliet, he was the son of Sergio Arthur and Helen Eileen (nee Bolos) Murer. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Georgetown University Law School.
In his early career, Mr. Murer practiced law and served as a Public Defender. In 1985, he and his wife, Cherilyn, founded Murer Consultants, Inc., one of the nation's leading health care, regulatory and management consulting firms, where he served as Managing Partner. They retired in January of 2017.
Michael was a Renaissance man who was an avid reader and loved to travel. He was very knowledgeable, especially in history and architecture. Michael and Cherilyn especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends on their boat, and they enjoyed their membership in the Chicago Yacht Club.
His professional activities included serving on the President’s Advisory Council and the Foundation Board of Governors State University, in addition to many other professional and civic organizations.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Cherilyn Gail (nee DiSpirito) Murer; his devoted children, Jeffrey Stevenson (Trenholme Junghans) Murer of St. Andrews, Scotland, and Sasha (Matthew) Demos of Downers Grove, IL; three cherished grandsons, Cameron, Jake and Nate Demos, all of Downers Grove; two brothers, Sergio (Beverly) Murer of Joliet, and Brian (Patrice) Murer of Williamsburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, and one sister, Monica Murer, preceded him in death.
A Memorial Gathering for Michael A. Murer will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. At 3:00 p.m., a Celebration of Michael’s life will be held. Interment will be private.
