Bernice J. Link
(nee Schmucker)
Age 99, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Born in Joliet, on November 24, 1918, to the late Frank and Sophia (nee Becker) Schmucker, she was a lifelong Joliet and Shorewood resident. Bernice attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from Providence Catholic High School, Class of 1937.
She married Albert J. Link, a fourth generation farmer, on January 11, 1941, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Joliet, and they farmed their entire married lives, primarily in Troy Township. Bernice was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and also a member of the Paulites of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and enjoyed making her famous chocolate chip cookies for all to enjoy.
Bernice is survived by her three daughters, Carol (Terry) Bergin, Linda (the late James) Smith and Bonnie (the late David) Delrose; one son, Raymond (Dawn) Link; grandmother of 12; great grandmother of 20; and great-great grandmother of two. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Link (2010); daughter, Marilyn, in infancy (1951); sons-in-law, David Delrose and James Smith; her parents; and siblings, Paul (late Mary) Schmucker, Ann Schmucker, Rose (late Max) Michelich, Alvina (late Gordon) Greenwood, Joseph Schmucker, Raymond (late Ethel) Schmucker, Clarence "Ki" (late Margaret) Schmucker and Irene (late Charles) Nemenski.
Visitation for Bernice J. Link will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet. Family and friends will meet directly on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery.
