Downey, Darlene P.
(nee Feeney)
Age 72. Passed away at home after a long battle with breast cancer surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Joliet and resided in Minooka for many years where she also worked as a school nurse.
She was the loving daughter of the late John B. and Genevieve (McDonald) Feeney. She was the beloved wife of the late James Downey; precious mother to Kathie (Les) Miner, Jeannine Arias, Drs. Jamie (John) Costello, and Michael (Cheryl) Downey; she was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer Miner (deceased), Sarah (Shane) Bradshaw, Ryan Miner, Kristina Arias, Daniel Miner, Alexander Arias, Abigail Downey, Caitlyn Downey, and little James Downey; Olivia Bradshaw was her dear great- grandchild; she was the adored sister of Michael (Phyllis) Feeney, John R. (Virginia) Feeney, James (Sharon) Feeney, Mary Jean (Jerry) Breen, and Patrick (Michele) Feeney and was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was the strong matriarch of the family, spiritual, patriotic, and active in sports, arts, travel, dancing, card-playing and entertaining. She was an avid supporter of many charities, a humanitarian who actively savored life and selflessly cared for her family. She made a positive impact on all of our lives with her kind, feisty, resilient disposition. She was deeply loved by all and will continue to be our inspiration.
Funeral Services for Darlene P. Downey will be Friday, June 3, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Building Fund of St. Mary's Church Minooka, IL would be greatly appreciated.
