George B. Muir
George B. “Bern” Muir, age 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Rosewood Care Center, Joliet.
Born August 4, 1919 in Black River Falls, WI, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (nee Helmers) Muir. He married Adeline M. (nee Roesel) Muir, and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2016 following 68 years of marriage. His great-granddaughter, Alexandra Adeline Muir also preceded him in death.
George was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He worked as a mill operator for Reynolds Aluminum, McCook, IL, retiring in 1978. A master wood crafter, Bern enjoyed making furniture for his family. He was a skilled ham radio operator, loved to fish and was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are his four sons, Frederick (Suzanne) of Galena, IL, Terry (Janet) of Joliet, David (Rosa) of Carterville, IL and Douglas Muir Ed.D. of Joliet; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Kay) Muir, Anthony (Susan) Muir, Dawn (Lonnie) Stephenson, Tracy (J.B.) Phillips, Kelly (Jonathan) Davis, Jody (Joshua) Park and Lisa (Chad) Clover; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (Ron) Schaller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for George B. Muir will be held Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, from 8:30 a.m. until time of prayers at 9:45 a.m., and will continue to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Ave., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park with full Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Army.
