Obituary of John Charles Drnek

At the age of 59, following a courageous battle with cancer, John Drnek passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family by his side.  He was born on September 22, 1958, in Chicago, the son of the late Charles and Jean (nee Pratt) Drnek.  He was raised in Romeoville, a graduate of Romeoville High School, Class of 1976, and has resided in Joliet for the past 35 years.  John was retired after over 40 years of faithful service with the brotherhood of Sheet Metal Workers Local #265.  He was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.  John was a committed and faithful Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan.  

John is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janet (nee Farmer) Drnek; daughters, Jennifer (Tyler) Kennedy and Katie (Eric) Johnson both of Joliet; grandchildren, Carter and Liam Kennedy and Laynie, Harper and Wyatt Johnson; brother, Lawrence Drnek; four aunts, including special aunt Theresa Perkins; and one uncle.  Numerous cousins and a special friend, David Slucki, also survive.

He was preceded by his parents.

Funeral services for John Drnek will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018, at 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, with Deacon Tom Schroeder officiating.  As it was John’s request, cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home would be appreciated.  Visitation will be MONDAY from 4:00 until time of services at 8 p.m.  For more information, please call 815-741-5500 or visit his Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
