“Bob”
Robert Allen Watt, of Joliet, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Presence Villa Franciscan Nursing Home, with his family by his side. Bob was born on March 29, 1933, the son of Wesley and Ruth Myrtle (nee Kincaid) Watt. He grew up in Grindstone City, MI and was a graduate of Port Austin High School. Bob was a proud United States Navy veteran who served his country during the Korean War. He was an active member throughout the community of Will County; being a Board Member of the Will County Credit Union for over 14 years, along with being actively involved with the American Legion Post 1080, Knights of Columbus Post 382 and also a long time parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Crest Hill. He retired as a Correctional Clerk from Statesville Correctional Facility, after 22 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Bob stayed busy and kept a part time job at D’Arcy Motors in Joliet where he enjoyed being a shuttle driver.
In his free time Bob enjoyed golfing, playing softball, swimming, and traveling with his family. Bob had a large family that he loved very much, and always made sure they knew how important they were to him.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Teresa (nee Ferrara) Watt; his children, Cynthia Cregan and Brian (Susie) Watt; his step children, Ivy (Michael) Thomas, Cynthia (Thomas) Schmitt, David (Cathy) Cumpston, James Cumpston, and Joseph (Tina) Cumpston; one brother, Don (Deborah) Watt; sister-in-law, Paula Watt; grandchildren, Carter Watt, Alexandria Watt, David Cregan, Mandy (Shaun) Costillo, Becky (Jeff) Ferguson, Brad (Stacy) Schmitt, Jenny (Joe) Cartwright, Mike (Amanda) Schmitt, Ian (Jen) Cumpston, Shauna Cumpston, Chris (Liz) Brown, Anna (Jason) Tebo, Kara (Jacob) Ching, and Audrey Cumptson; great grandchildren, Ryan Costillo, Cory Costillo, Kyle Costillo, Logan Ferguson, Samantha Ferguson, Zach Schmitt, Josh Schmitt, Ashlee Tapia, Ally Warren, Joseph Warren, Samuel Warren, Jessi Cartwright, Audrey Cartwright, Bella Schmitt, Lizzy Schmitt, Amelia Schmitt, Mikey Schmitt, Oliver Cumpston, Scarlet Tebo, and Peyton Ching; and great-great grandchildren, Zander Schmitt and soon to be Pace Wyatt Schmitt. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He is preceded by his parents; siblings, Dewey Watt, Annie Collins and Dell Watt; son, Jerry Watt; grandson, Jimmy Cregan; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Cumpston.
Funeral Services for Robert Allen Watt will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1711 Burry Circle, Crest Hill, IL, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was Robert’s request, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Gathering will take place on Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to any military organization of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
