Obituary of Salomon C. Reyes
Salomon C. Reyes, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Joliet on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, surrounded by love. Salomon was born on March 13, 1937, the son of Moises and Juanita (nee Ortiz) Reyes, in Joliet and has been a lifelong resident.
Sal was the typical rambunctious teenager, he was proud of the fact that he played basketball while he attended Joliet Central High School and later went on to attend Joliet Junior College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Sal started work at a young age to help support his family and ensure that his younger siblings finished their schooling. After over ten years with the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Rail Road, he went on to do work in the construction industry.
Sal was known for his ability to talk to anyone about anything. He was a great story teller and had an unfiltered sense of humor. In fact, it was because of this gift that he met and fell in love with Diane. He was the social coordinator in his building, gathering everyone together to socialize and work on puzzles. Throughout his life he enjoyed listening to music and traveling. He enjoyed numerous trips with his sons, traveling to several cities visiting baseball parks. It was the time with his family that he cherished the most. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and a devoted big brother, uncle and cousin; his absence will be a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Sal is survived by his sons, Sal (Kerry)Reyes of Cary, IL and Mark Reyes of Natick, MA; his loving soul mate for the past 13 years, Diane Fisher; Diane’s children, Jamie (Jimmy) McDonald, Stacy (Mike Ficner) Fisher, Eric (Jillian Kampstra) Fisher and Steve (Christi Mills) Fisher; his sister, Diane (the late William) Lewis; his grandchildren, Adam (Lauren) Reyes, Hannah (Jonathan) Reyes-Thierry, Mikaela Reyes, Jacob Reyes, Ezra Loevy-Reyes, and Talia Loevy-Reyes; and five great grandchildren. He was also a grandfather to Joe Rovano, Morgan Monson, Lily Ficner, Kaidin Fisher, Rylie Fisher, Jimmy Joe McDonald, Izak McDonald, Bree McDonald, Domenique McDonald, Kylie Larson, Jacob Larson and Liam Fisher; brother-in-law to Norma Reyes, Rudy Carlson and Debbie Reyes; his ex-wife and mother of his children, Judy Stipes and his daughter-in-law, Debra Loevy. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He is preceded by his parents and his siblings, Bob Reyes, Dorothy Carlson and Rich Reyes.
