Dr. Russell M. Swayne

Age 83, of Joliet, IL, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018, at his late residence following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in Chicago, the son of the late Russell and Ethel (nee Fleming) Swayne, residing in Joliet for the past 36 years.  A graduate of Wheaton College, he received his Master’s Degree from IIT and his Doctorate in Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology.  Following graduation, Russell returned to school and received his Master’s of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary.  He practiced in psychology and taught at Adler University, Chicago, and was a member of Judson Church.  Russell was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing for services at the Church of the Living Water in Chicago.  He was an avid gardener and loved to play tennis and ping pong.        

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dr. Laura (nee Landhuis) Swayne of Joliet; his daughters, Lori (Charles) Roth of Steger, IL and Tracy (Altin) Koço of Miami, FL; his son, Kevin (Ashunta) May of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Roth, Nicole (Perry) Gunderman, Foster Koço, Tira Koço, Maxwell May and Nala May; three great grandchildren, Daniel Roth, Alyssa Roth and Madison Roth; and his former wife, Alice Bennett of Park Forest.

Visitation for Dr. Russell M. Swayne will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, at 10:30 a.m., Judson Church, 2800 Black Rd., Joliet.  Interment will be held privately by the family at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lansing, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Community Hospice or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.  For more information, please call 815-741-5500 or visit his Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
