Obituary of Marion Elberts

Marion Elberts (nee Coonan) Marion Elberts passed away in the early hours of Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. She was 91 years old. Marion was born on March 11, 1919, in the upstairs bedroom of her grandparents' house on East Washington Street in Ingalls Park, Joliet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Elberts (1975); her parents, Bernice and Cyril Coonan; her sister, Audrey Jane; her brother, James; and one beloved little terrier, Maddie. Marion is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Greg Ferguson of New Lenox; granddaughters, Nicole Ferguson (Brian) Hanna of Birmingham, England, Natalie Ferguson (Scott) Vlna of Oswego, and Nannette Ferguson (Ty) Englehardt of Waukegan. She leaves four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Audrey, Roisin, Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. Marion was a dedicated and fun-loving mother and grandmother who was her daughter's and three granddaughters' best friend. She was also Gram to so many of her granddaughters' friends. Her loss leaves them heartbroken, but they are comforted in the knowledge that she is now at peace. A lifelong resident of Joliet, Marion worked at the munitions factory during WWII, and later at Bernard's department store in downtown Joliet. She was a longtime employee of Southern Fried Bakery on East Washington Street. Marion was a former volunteer for Joliet Area Community Hospice. No one who met her could ever forget her, and she will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Marion's family would like to thank the amazing staff at Joliet Area Community Hospice who looked after her for the last week of her life. The family would be grateful for memorials in Marion's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice. Funeral Services for Marion Elberts will be Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery.
