Genevieve “Gen” Vrakas
(nee Baltas)
Age 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at her late residence with her devoted daughter and son-in-law by her side. Born in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen Baltas.
Genevieve is survived by her son, Anthony (Kathleen) Vrakas; daughter, Helen (James) Bruno; cherished grandchildren, Jenny (Dr. Craig) Doster, Anthony (Jessica) Bruno, Jayme (Ryan) Las, Christopher Vrakas; loving step grandchildren, Gregory (Jeannine) Lesniak, John Lesniak and Michelle (Richard) Foreman; loving great grandchildren, Jacob, Alena, and Sophia Doster, Madison, Grace, Gianna, and Giovanni Bruno, and Gavin Las; loving step great grandchildren, Grace Foreman and Bryson and Bennett Lesniak.; and two sisters, Sophie (the late Bill) Honiotes and Marina (the late Steve) Passas. Twelve devoted godchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Vrakas; her parents; brother, Jacob (the late Emily) Baltas; sister, Irene Baltas; as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Gen will be remembered fondly as a hard working woman who possessed a great love for her church, God and family. A Red Cross Volunteer, Gen was very active at her church, a past Sunday school teacher, member of the Philoptochos Society and affectionately known as, “the salad lady”, for the annual Greek Food Festivals. She also enjoyed babysitting for family and friends.
The Vrakas family will always be grateful to the RN’s and CNA’s from Joliet Area Community Hospice for their friendship, kindness and comfort they bestowed upon Gen.
Visitation for Gen Vrakas will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a Trisagion Service at 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral Services will begin Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 8:45 a.m., from the funeral home chapel to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park II.
