Obituary of Sylvester John Weber
Sylvester J. Weber
Sylvester John “Syl” Weber, age 82, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Morris Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 9, 1937 in Lockport, IL, he was the son of the late Sylvester Jacob and Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Donahue) Weber. He was raised in a family of farmers and was a graduate of St. John Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserve serving during the Vietnam era in Italy.
Syl worked in the rolling mill for the former Lemont Manufacturing, Ceco Steel and Thomas Steel. He later worked in transportation maintenance for the New Lenox School District.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a hard worker and provided well for his family. He maintained his home himself and could repair anything. He enjoyed the time he spent living at Park Pointe Assisted Living in Morris the past three years, and will be missed by his many friends there. He was a man of faith, a devout Catholic, and a devoted friend. He loved to eat and enjoyed the fellowship of his social groups.
Syl is survived by his three daughters, Linda (Ron) McCluskey of Crest Hill, Lisa (Stephan Ybarra) MacLean of Diamond, and Leslie (Tim Allen) Weber of Coal City; three grandchildren, William “Bill” McCluskey, Amanda (Daniel) MacLean-Kelly, and Jacob MacLean; two great-grandchildren, Finley and Faolan Kelly; a sister, Daun (the late James) Konicek of Lockport; a brother, William “Bill” (Jean) Weber of Manhattan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith F. (nee Donick) Weber (2011); parents; one brother, Robert Weber; and his wife’s extended family, especially Marianne and Mickey Hasse.
Syl’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Park Pointe Assisted Living and Park Pointe Rehab, and the staff at Morris Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care they have provided over the last three years, especially over the last difficult month.
Due to weather conditions, the visitation and funeral for Sylvester J. "Syl" Weber as originally scheduled have been postponed by one day.
