My mother, Lillian, was so much more than a homemaker. She was a lovely woman, sweet, extremely talented, with a huge heart. She worked for many years as a junior accountant (she insisted she was just a bookkeeper) but never spoke much about that. She excelled in that, and anything else she did! She spent much of life, prior to having children, in many accounting type positions, and also as a bank teller. Later in life, she returned to the retail field, working the china department at Bergner's/Carson's and excelled there as well. While working there, she also returned to the bank industry, working the vault.
Lillian enjoyed spending holidays with my husband, Dann, and I, and when she ceased feeling comfortable driving among semis, we brought her every holiday (completely cooked) so that she could still celebrate her favorites, and be introduced to some new ones. Lillian was a great cook, and inspired me to begin cooking before I became a teen. She taught me the value of frugality (a result of her depression era upbringing), and to value what has been given to you, be it knowledge or physical things.
