Obituary of Edward Gomez

Edward Gomez, age 40, of Channahon, and formerly of Chicago, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at Rush University Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie had bravely fought cancer for the past two years.

Born December 7, 1978 in Chicago, he was the son of Eduardo and Oliva (nee Sanchez) Gomez.  He was a graduate of Kelvyn Park High School and attended Northeastern Illinois University.  He worked his entire career for the United Center, most recently as Building Security Supervisor.

Eddie was a loving and devoted husband, a magnificent son, a kind and caring brother, and a beloved uncle.  A better husband could not have been found.  With his beautiful smile and big heart, he would do anything to help you--all you had to do was ask.  Eddie was very intelligent and applied himself successfully in his rewarding career, and he will be remembered for both his kindness and his stubbornness at the same time.  His taste in music favored House music, but in sports, his Chicago Bears were his only team. 

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Alexandria M. (nee Rios) Gomez of Channahon; his father, Eduardo Gomez; two sisters, Janet (Jose) Hernandez and Ivon (Dario) Hernandez, both of Brookfield; his mother-in-law, Magdalena Galvan-Segovia of Channahon; sister-in-law, Stephanie (David) Castaneda of Channahon; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Oliva (nee Sanchez) Gomez.

Visitation for Edward Gomez will be Friday, August 16, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Ann Catholic Church, 24500 S. Navajo Drive, Channahon, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
