Obituary of David E. Cushing

David E. Cushing, age 84, of Chicago, IL and formerly of Peoria, IL, Stetsonville, WI, Princeton, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Veteran’s Home with his family by his side.

Born in Peoria, David was the son of the late Leo and Margaret (nee Seaton) Cushing.  He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.  David earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois Chicago.  He was a Police Officer with the Chicago Police Department for 25 dedicated years before retirement in 1990.  

He enjoyed John Wayne movies, Old Westerns and Big Band Music.

David is survived by his loving children, Mark Cushing of Tampa, FL, Leeanne (Steve) Gaskins of Russiaville, IN, and Elizabeth (Martin) Heldt of Birmingham, MI; grandchildren, Rachel Zahora of Joliet, IL, Johnny (Carly) Zahora of Romeoville, IL, Donovan Petersen of Plainfield, IL, Shane Petersen of Ottawa, IL, Victoria Petersen of Plainfield, IL, and Jillian Stewart of Birmingham, MI; and siblings, Marilyn (John) Tribbey of Sacramento, CA, Leo Cushing of Peoria, IL, and Gerald (Arlos) Cushing of Medaryville, IN.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.  

He was preceded by his beloved wife, Dixie Lee (nee Chandler) Cushing; parents; sister, Roseanne (Cushing) Poremba; sister-in-law, Leonce (Vachon) Cushing; and brother-in-law, John Poremba.

A Memorial Gathering for David E. Cushing will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m., at the Fred C.
