Obituary of Erich Hoffmann
Erich Hoffmann, age 87, of Shorewood, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Senior Star at Weber Place, with his loving family by his side, and is now at peace following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born June 15, 1932 in Wintersdorf, Germany, Erich lived through World War II in Germany, and came to the United States in 1952 as a refugee, at age 19, along with two of his brothers. He began working for U. S. Steel in South Chicago, and then proudly served two years with the United States Army, returning to the steel mill and completing 30 years of service, retiring in 1986.
Erich came to the United States with nothing, but through hard work made a wonderful life for his wife and children. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a United States citizen. He was a man of deep faith and one of his favorite sayings was, “better days are coming.” He enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement which included driving all over the country including twice a year trips to Florida. He enjoyed his many friendships made through his church, Messiah Lutheran Church, and the Shorewood Glen community.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 wonderful years, Edelgard (Dramsch) Hoffmann of Shorewood; and his devoted children, Harold Erich Hoffmann of Dyer, IN and Doris Elizabeth Hoffmann of Aurora, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Martha (Abend) Hoffmann; and seven brothers and sisters.
