Obituary of Mark Melvin Mohr
Age 66, of Dwight, IL and formerly of Morris, IL, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Morris Hospital. He was born March 6, 1954, to the late Elaine (nee Miller) and Melvin Mohr in Chicago, where he was raised and educated on the south side.
Mel was an Artillery Specialist in the US Army and served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his sister, Carol (nee Mohr) (Frank) Haug; two nieces, Carolynn (Steven) Granat who is also his Goddaughter and Becky (Joseph) Zmudka; his son, Brandon “B” (Amanda Russell) Mohr; three grandsons, Vincenzo, Oliver, Lincoln, and another due in May; several cousins also survive as well as his canine companion that Mel proudly rescued from a shelter, Darla the cockapoo.
Preceded in death by his wife, Noreen (nee Iatomasi) Mohr; his parents; and one sister, Linda (the late Richard) Tulke.
Mel retired from Consolidated Freightways after serving as a Dockman for many years. He was a member of Teamsters Local #710.
He followed his father’s passion for music as his father played the accordion in a band. Mel was a musician and drummer himself and was inspired by seeing bands live and by the “King”, Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed working on cars and being a Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed mafia movies and impersonating Mafioso characters.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, Godfather, father, grandfather, and a great friend to “millions”.
Funeral Services and Interment at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, IL, will be held privately. A Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date. Funeral Arrangements under the care and coordination of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Dr.), Morris. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Veterans Affairs would be appreciated.
