I can't believe it has been a year today that we lost you. I still can't think of you without tears flooding my eyes. You were the best big sister I could have ever asked for or imagined. I know you are resting easy in God's loving arms......and that gives me peace but I still want you here. I love and miss you so much. Heaven has the best if the best in you. Rest easy my sweet sister.
Love,
Kerry

Where do I start? Deb, you came into my life during my mid-teens. I know I was not the best kid in the world. Especially in my teens. But the first thing I noticed was how happy my dad was. You changed his life and ours, for the better. As I grew older I realized what an impact you made on my life as well as the impact you had on the life of others. Your students loved you. The passion you had for your profession was amazing. You kept that passion for teaching and literacy into your retirement and beyond. Most people retire and walk away. But not you. We love you for that. I love you for the person you helped me become. Thank you Deb. We love you. Rest easy.

As a six year old, Ms McCann was my first full time teacher. In a mind-blowing move for a child, she changed her name mid-year to Ms. Hudolin. While that didn't make much sense at the time, everything else did. She made everything about school fun. Not only for my classmates and me, but for my children and theirs. My 19, 17, and 13 yr old children and I all share the same favorite teacher that quite literally inspired generations to love reading. Little Critters are still favorites of mine, and for that and so many things, I will forever be grateful for and love Ms. Hudolin. Thank you for everything.

I am at a loss for words as there isn't enough time or space to say all that my sister meant to me. She was always there for whoever or whatever I...or anyone else in the family needed. When you lose both of your parents you always look to that big sister to hold together some sense of security. Knowing she was always there just made you have a sense of peace that everything was still right with the world even when it didn't seem so. To have Deb in your corner was a precious gift. Deb you have touched so many people.....no way to ever put a number in it....it's that many. Your kindness and generosity and pay it forward ways will not be lost on me or anyone blessed to have crossed paths with you. You always told me you needed to have a purpose.....especially after you retired. Deb......your "purpose" is all around us and in thousands of kids...parents...and people you touched. I will miss you more than my heart can stand right now....I am immensely proud to call you my sister....and my friend....and mine and my families lives will never be the same. Our celebrations will have an empty seat...and our hearts a void that will never be filled but we know you are now at peace and healthy again and are thankful we have an angel named Deb....still watching over us...just from a different place. I love you Deb.....and like you would say....not goodbye....just until next time. Love Kerry

Mrs. Hudolin taught 2 generations of my family: my Aunt Carrie at Saint Mary Magdalene in the 70s, and my brother and I at Elwood in the 90s and all of us say she's our favorite teacher. 1st grade is such a critical year for children...that's when we learn how to read, socialize, and respect others and Mrs. Hudolin was the best at teaching all three. I think most kids who had her at Elwood will remember word lists and filing single file up to her little desk in the middle of the classroom to attempt to pronounce it to her. If we pronounced it right, we'd get a single smartie. She also had a way of connecting with us and making each and every one of us feel special, and her ability to do that is unparalleled.
I attribute so many of my academic successes to the year I was able to spend with her and I know my parents would agree. She was adored by every student that ever had her and I know her name will go long unforgotten because of the impact she's had on so many students lives over her long tenure as a teacher.
I still have my word lists from Mrs. Hudolin's class in my keepsakes box, with notes, marks and highlights much like the indelible marks she's left on my life.
Should heaven exist, I can't think of many more deserving to be there than Mrs. Hudolin.
My deepest sympathy to her family.

Mrs. Hudolin gave her gift of teaching to all the students to set them on the path of reading and learning. She shaped so many minds to be able to read and gain knowledge through learning. God bless her...
