I remember my first year of teaching at Plainfield Central high school, where Brandon attended. Brandon addressed me as Sandy during passing period. A hall monitor stopped him, stating he was disrespectful addressing me by my first name. I had to advocate on his behalf, explaining that we knew each other outside of school
Also, I remember a camping trip to Kentucky where Sue brought everything except the kitchen sink. It was so fun watching her determination to be sure that everything she brought was needed. The boys went golfing one day while Sue and I hit the quaint shops and a nice restaurant. Garrett later shared that The boys rented a golf cart. Apparently Brandon drove like a maniac, almost running over a turtle and nearly flipping the golf cart. Garrett had more fun zipping around on that cart with Brandon than he did golfing. Brandon could easily make us smile :)

We remember Brandon as kind, sensitive towards others and funny. He was quite engaging even as a child and I’m sure that carried over into adulthood. Many prayers for you as you grieve his death. May God alone be your comfort and peace.”What is your only comfort in life and in death?” That I am not my own, but belong- body and soul, in life and in death- to my Savior, Jesus Christ.” (Taken from the Heidelberg Catechism).
Love,
Michael and Cindy

Praying for you, Sue and Stephanie. I remember Brandon well and have many fond memories of Grandma's house with all of us.
A poem I think of that is a reminder of everyone who now will see Brandon again:
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
He is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch him until at length
he hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come
to mingle with each other
Then, someone at my side says;
"There, he is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all.
He is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as he was when he left my side
and he is just as able to bear his load of living freight to his destined port.
His diminished size is in me, not in him.
And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "There, he is gone!"
There are other eyes watching him coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
"Here he comes!"
Praying for you all during this difficult time.

Dear Sue and Stephanie,
Brandon was a beautiful, kind, loving soul. He was a free spirit, who was unique in every way. He loved God! Brandon left his mark on the world. He did it his way. Far to young and talented to leave us, but God had other plans. God wants Brandon home with him. He will be forever in our hearts. Sue, you can be proud of the son you raised. He was a beautiful combination of you and Tim. Our hearts ache with you for your loss.
We love you,
Aunt Ann, Connie, Rich and Mia

Sue and Stephanie,
The slide show of Brandon captured what a fun loving spirit he had! I laughed and cried as I viewed the slide show as he really did have an infectious smile. The service on June 6th was beautiful and gave us hope that we will see Brandon (and Tim) again. We were so sorry we could not be in Joliet with you during this pandemic but we watched the service live on You Tube and felt like we were with you in spirit. The pictures of Brandon at the front were lovely and the flowers were pretty. Andrea and Arol both spoke from the heart and we appreciated all the stories about Brandon. He was such a wonderful person and we are thankful we were some of the lucky people to have known him.
We are praying for you at this difficult time.
Love,
Dot and Larry

We light a candle for Brandon whose life is an inspiration to others. Sending love and condolences to the Simenson and Rutkowski families, as well as everyone who has been affected by his passing. The service was most amazing and beautiful. He embodied the deep sensitivity and sincere compassion that we saw in Tim and see in Sue. He loved and was loved which is the greatest gift of life.

Sue and Stephanie,
Thank you for sharing your service and photos with us.
Like to so many others, Brandon was extremely kind and loving towards me. He was there for me through one of the hardest times in my life while we were both living in Champaign. He helped cheer me up and let me sleep over, giving up his bed, so that I wouldn't be alone at night. That's the type of friend he was. He hung out with me during the day and kept my mind off the negative.
I met Brandon in high school as I was Sam's best friend and roommate. I have experienced a lot of sad times, and as I'm sure you know- thinking about those funny times really helps bring us closer to those we miss. Well, now that we are all "grown up" I guess I can share our hilarious adventures as kids :) (Sorry Sam!) Brandon would come visit Sam at school and sneak into our dorm room. We had sooooo many laughs and to this day I can't believe we didn't get caught. But once again, Brandon made those hard times Sam and I were going through fun and manageable. His smile IS contagious!
I am sad and regretful that I lost touch with Brandon over the years and I feel like I never repaid him for his kindness. I know he would just blow that off if I actually said that to him, but it's something I never got to thank him for. So I guess I'm thanking you ladies, for raising such a kind, loving human being that touched so many lives. Brandon is proof that even in dark times, there is light, love and hope.
Thank you,
Christina (Koski) Fabian

To all of the Simenson and Rutkowski Family,
Thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. I did not know Brandon personally, but remember Grandma Frankie talking of Stephanie and Brandon with such pride and joy. Photos were displayed throughout her house and projects and celebrations were designed especially with her precious grandchildren in mind. Listening to the tribute today makes me wish that I did know this fun-loving young man with such a true servant's heart. May we all find encouragement today for the promise of a new life and may we be inspired to be that person that lifts others up through love and generosity.
