I was shocked to read of Jean's passing in this month's alumni magazine of Virginia Tech. Jean was my next-door neighbor when we lived on 12th floor Slusher Tower dorm our junior year. She was a great friend and neighbor. When she and Martha Wyatt moved off campus together for our senior year I was over there for various meals and parties they had. She sent the best cookbook as a wedding gift to us which I still use (The Joy of Cooking). I keep the sweet note she wrote then in the cookbook. I just pulled it out and read it, as I have done occasionally through the years. It makes me feel close to her.
