Dr. Hui Chen

Obituary of Dr. Hui Ling Chen

Age 78, formerly of Fontana, California, and Brooklyn, New York, passed away in California on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.  She was born in Guang Dong, China, on November 4, 1941 and endured the trials and trauma of WWII as an infant.  She persevered and pursued her education, while always feeling so fortunate to not only be accepted to attend high school, but also to continue her education, finishing college and medical school.

Although it was in junior high school when she first met her husband, Ta Chiang, it wasn’t until they were in medical school when they began dating and eventually married after completing their medical education.  They began raising their family in Jiangxi, China until 1978 when they immigrated to the United States.  Without the benefit of learning English, Dr. Chen worked as a seamstress in the sweatshops of Chinatown in New York City.  Never once did the Chen’s asked for or received any government subsidies or aide.

With a strong conviction that education was paramount, the Chen’s were focused and driven to provide and ensure every opportunity for their children to thrive academically for which Lisa, Alan, and David are eternally grateful.  She and her husband ended up raising two doctors of their own and a daughter with a thriving business.

She will be remembered fondly as a very selfless woman who always saw the good in people.

In addition to her daughter, Lisa and sons, Alan, and David, Hui Ling is also survived by her son-in-law Steven, daughters-in-law, Maryann, and June.  She adored her grandchildren, Timothy, Jonathan, Ashley, Noelle, Ethan, Thierry, and Lauren.  Also, surviving are her five siblings, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Hui Ling was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ta Chiang Chen (2013).
