Jay Richie

Obituary of Jay David Richie

Jay David Richie, age 77, late of Minooka, and formerly of Downers Grove and Marseilles, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, with his loving family by his side.

Born March 11, 1943 in Aurora, IL, he was the son of Jay Monroe and Lucy Opal (Holmes) Richie.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and the Naval Reserves.  He worked as a Purchasing Manager for several companies including Control Masters and retired from Crescent Electric.

Jay was active in his church and community serving as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles, the Minooka American Legion Post #1188, the Downers Grove and Minooka Lions Clubs, and the Minooka Police Pension Board.

He was an avid fisherman during his early life until his interests changed to all things cars.  He loved working on cars and he and his wife travelled all over the country attending car shows.  A loving and devoted husband, dad and Papa, he valued family above everything else in his life.

Although Jay was not born and raised in Minooka, he embraced the town as though it was his own, and became an active volunteer calling bingo games, chairing the Minooka Summerfest, and devoting countless hours to Lions Club and American Legion activities.  He also enjoyed the Marseilles community, and the many events associated with Trinity Lutheran Church.  Wherever Jay was needed, he was first in line to help.

He loved his precious wife, the former Betty Ann Bolte, who was his high school sweetheart, and with whom he enjoyed 57 years of marriage.

Betty survives, along with his two devoted daughters, Linda (Dave) Sobieski of Plainfield, and Sharon (Paul) Baumgartner of Naperville; two loving grandchildren, Tyler and Patricia Baumgartner; one sister, Carol (the late Ed) Hendricks of Lombard; a brother-in-law, Marvin Kamerlander; and many nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gayle “Bud” (Nora) Richie; and five sisters, Delores (Lou) Charles, Marion Kamerlander, Justine (Ellsworth) Fleming, Barbara (John) Link, and Phyllis (Terry Dudas) (Henry) Jarvis.
