Edwin George Buckman
Age 90, a longtime Joliet, IL resident passed away peacefully at home Friday, December 11, 2020. He was born September 13, 1930, in Conesville, Iowa where he was raised and educated. Ed was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War, honorably discharged at the rank of Sgt. He retired from Ford Motor Company following 34 years of service. He was a life member of Stone City Post VFW #2199. He was also a member of the New Lenox American Legion Post # 1977, Belmont A.C., Ingalls Park A.C., Joliet Area Garden Club, and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Ed took great pride in caring for his gardens, he loved to camp, he thoroughly enjoyed the winter months in Apache Junction, AZ, where he attended the Chicago Cubs Spring Training. He was an accomplished woodworker and metalworker craftsman, an avid fisherman, and he also enjoyed hunting.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kay (nee Murphy) Buckman of Joliet; two children, Joseph Buckman of Redondo Beach, CA and Michelle Wlodarczyk of Joliet; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Wlodarczyk; two sisters, Norma (Ralph) Baughman and Carole (late Stan) Kacena; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws also survive.
Preceded by his parents, Charles and Irma (Carter) Buckman; five sisters, Ruth Solomon, Dorothy McLain, Viola Dotson, Ethel Haughton, and Maxine Lee; three brothers, Lyle, Charles and Donald Buckman; as well as several in-laws.
Visitation for Edwin will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. In accordance with the Illinois guidelines, a 10 person capacity will be followed. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
Funeral services for Mr. Buckman will be held Thursday, December 17, 2020, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 127 S. Briggs St., Joliet, IL where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Seating in the church is limited. Pre-registration is required. Please contact the funeral home no later than 24 hours in advance if you wish to attend the Funeral Mass. Registered guests are asked to meet in Church at 9:30 a.m. Facemasks are required and social distancing will be observed. Private interment will follow Mass at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
