Carmen Martinez (nee Castillo)
Carmen Martinez, age of 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Shorewood on Friday, December 11, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family. Carmen was born on February 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Cleofas and Nicolasa (nee Izaguirre) Castillo. A longtime Joliet resident, Carmen was a devout Catholic and long time a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She was a happy woman with a gentle soul who was loved by everyone who met her. Carmen enjoyed crocheting and loved music. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and dear friend to all.
Carmen is survived by her children, Elvira Almazan, Jose Guadalupe (Maria De Los Angeles) Martinez, Teresa (Norberto) Gerardo, Bertha (Daniel) Salas, Maria Flores, Maria Martinez, Alicia (Jose Luis) Del Toro, and Esther (Rodolfo) Nava; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfonso Castillo; and one sister Virginia Reyes. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
She is preceded by her loving husband of 67 years, Pedro Martinez (2010); her parents; and her siblings, Guillermo Castillo, Manuel Castillo, Ignacio Castillo, Angela Rodriguez, Reyna Castillo, Gloria Almazan, and Rodolfo Castillo.
Visitation for Carmen Martinez will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. In accordance with the Illinois guidelines, a 10 person capacity will be followed. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
Family and friends are invited to meet at 11:30 a.m. for Mass on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 205 E. Jackson St., Joliet, IL. Interment will be held privately by the family at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
