Sister M. Edward Clare Gietl, OSF
Of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, on July 20, 2007, at the age of 86. She was a member of the Joliet Franciscans for 67 years. Sister Edward Clare was born in Lemont, baptized Catherine R., and grew up in and attended schools in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Clara (Beringer) Gietl; sister Mary Louise Weiler, and brother William. She is survived by her brother, Edward, nieces and nephews and her Joliet Franciscan sisters.
Sister Edward Clare graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis, Joliet. She served for 32 years as a primary grade teacher in schools in Ohio and throughout Illinois. Upon retirement from classroom teaching, Sr. Edward Clare ministered in a variety of positions at St. Francis Academy, including clerical work, substitute teaching and tutoring. She also served for many years as a driver for sisters who did not drive. She volunteered for a time at Crisis Line of Will County. In retirement, Sr. Edward Clare served the residents of Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, visiting the sick and distributing mail.
The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Monday, July 23, 2007, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday, July 24, at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels to Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 801 North Larkin Avenue, Suite 101, Joliet, IL 60435-3442. Arrangements by:
