Frances Snodgrass

Obituary of Frances Macfarlane Snodgrass

Frances Macfarlane Snodgrass, 96, of Joliet, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice surrounded by the love of her family.

Born March 3, 1924, with her twin sister Victoria, in Morris, to the late Anthony and Mary Zick, she was a graduate of Morris High School.  Frances worked at Self-Locking Company in Morris, Illinois many years, before marrying Robert Macfarlane in 1956.

Frances enjoyed working alongside Robert, local Joliet vegetable farmer, for 23 years and raising her children until his death in 1979.  Frances then married James L. Snodgrass, Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army (Ret) and retired Assistant Head of Security at St. Joseph Hospital, in 1987.   She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling and dancing with James until his death in 2002.

Frances was an avid sports fan and never missed a game on WGN of her beloved Chicago Cubs.  She would hold tightly onto her St. Joseph and St. Jude statues, as well as pray her rosary, during the 2016 baseball playoff series.  Frances was brought to tears when her Cubs won the World Series that year.  She also was a Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan fan.  Frances loved to tell the story about her time sitting courtside and having MJ smile at her.  Frances loved to listen and dance to polka music, attend the weekly local dances every weekend and talk to everyone she met or crossed her path.  Frances especially loved to laugh, joke around and spend time with her family and friends.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Rita (James) Paros; son, Robert (Felicia) Macfarlane; step-son, Mark (Molly) Snodgrass; and two grandsons, Kevin Paros and Brian (Krista) Paros. Frances is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and husband, James; step-son, Ronald James Snodgrass; parents, Anthony and Mary Zick; four brothers, Edward (Evelyn) Zick, Alex (Dorothy) Zick, John (Valeria) Zick, Victor (Katherine) Zick; five sisters, Mary (Bill) Zick Schakelford, Minnie (Joseph) Zick Humpherson, Angela (Lawrence)  Zick Bokowski, Bernice (Otto) Zick Konow, and twin sister Victoria (Donald) Zick Neilson.
