Cindy,
Today I was with you in spirit as you celebrated your mother's life here on earth and as you celebrate her life now in heaven with God. During the time of the wake this morning, I prayed special prayers that are a part of my Catholic tradition for her - and for you.
I remember all the talks that your mom and I would have when I was discerning a vocation to the priesthood and when I was in seminary...sitting on the couch in Morris! You were usually off in the kitchen! She was always very thoughtful and reflective, something that I have always remembered, and I really saw her as a mother-like figure to me. The world's problems (or my problems at least!) seemed to be less daunting and more manageable after chatting with her.
Words cannot express how much she loved you!
"We do not lose heart, because our inner being is renewed each day even though our body is being destroyed at the same time. We do not fix our gaze on what is seen but what on what is unseen. What is seen is transitory; what is unseen lasts forever. Indeed, we know that when the earthly tent in which we dwell is destroyed, we have a dwelling provided for us by God, a dwelling in the heavens, not made by hands but to last forever. Therefore, we continue to be confident." ~2 Corinthians 4:16, 18; 5:1, 6.

Cindy, I remember all the times you and I spent together in 4-H, at your Aunt Maria’s, church, and school, and then later at our weddings, my baby shower, and family get-togethers (because you guys have *always been part of our family). Your mom was always there, always present and involved in the moment. She’s always had a giving spirit. I loved spending time with both of you during our 4-H fairs, riding with her to your band concerts that inevitably landed on the same day. I loved our “sleepovers” before leaving at 3 AM to trek to Springfield for State Fair and stopping at the same truck stop for breakfast as the sun rose. And I’m so thankful that you and I went stag together to prom and went to George’s afterwards. You may not realize it, but the love and friendship you and your mom have shown me over the years is something that I will forever treasure.
And Cindy, you also need to know that she and I talked years ago. All Mom ever wanted was for you to be happy with your own life and family. You’re absolutely correct that she’s your guardian angel. ***Don’t ever feel guilty for living your own life for yourself! That’s Mom’s wish for you. And remember: YOU ARE SO LOVED!

I absolutely loved Linda...I had her as a teacher, a coworker and a friend. And she was absolutely authentic and kind in each of those contexts ❤

Cindy, You were the apple of your mothers eye & she loved you so dearly. She got the chance to be a loving grandmother thanks to you & Jason. I know she will always be your guardian Angel. She was for sure a Angel on earth to anyone who knew her. I’m so glad I got to meet her. I’m here if you need me. If just for motherly advice. Love you dear! ❤️ Diane Palmer

Cindy, I know how proud your Mom is proud of you. You brought her so much joy especially by giving her a grandchild. You took good care of her. You will always carry her love in your heart and you will see her all around you. You and your child are a reflection of her. Take care of yourself now and know that she is in good hands without the burden of illness and pain.

When I moved to our neighborhood 8 years ago, Linda was the first to welcome me. Over the years, she and Cindy became such good friends and the best neighbors I could ask for. I knew that they’d always keep an eye on my house while I was away, and they were such a comfort to a girl whose whole family lives out of state. Jesus said “love your neighbor as yourself”, and Linda truly did that. What a legacy she leaves of a strong woman who put others first and persevered through hard times. I’m blessed for knowing you, Linda, and will really miss you!
