Obituary of Lillian Powers

Lillian Powers
(nee Kut)

Lillian Powers, (nee Kut), age 93, of Joliet, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with her loving family by her side.

Born February 25, 1927, in Harvey, IL, she was the daughter of John and Wanda (nee Socha) Kut, and was a graduate of Thornton Township High School.

She married the love of her life, William E. Powers, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing April 29, 2008.  Her parents and eight brothers and sisters, Stan, Joseph, Ted, Walter, Veronica, Mary, Jeanette and Josephine also preceded her in death.

Lill was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake.  You could not visit her home without begging to leave because you just could not eat anything else.  Her sandwiches, homemade soups, spaghetti and meatballs should have been sold worldwide.

She was an active member of St. Raymond’s Cathedral parish as President of Mothers Club for multiple years.  She had many friends and loved to spend time with them including at VFW fish frys and at her Rivals bowling league.  Many neighbors became lifelong friends.  Her holiday parties and St. Patrick’s Day parties were legendary.  She was a volunteer at St. Patrick’s retirement home as well as St. Joseph’s Hospital. She loved Martha Stewart and in her later years Dr. Phil. (She referred to Martha Stewart as her friend, “Martha”.)  She loved cheering for the Bears and the Illini football teams, bursting with, “Go, go, go…” at the TV.

Her peace was her quiet time reading at the end of each day. She was an amazing mother, grandma and friend. She was a defender of the people she loved and example of a proper lady for her granddaughters.

Lillian is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Patricia) Powers of Plymouth, WI, Lisa Powers of California, and Gary (Marnie) Powers of Shorewood; her grandchildren; Sarah and Niccole Powers, Alise Jonville, and Morgan and Abby Powers; and many nieces and nephews.
