Shirley M. Matous
(nee Peterson)
Age 89, of Morris, IL and formerly Seneca, IL, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Park Pointe Health Care and Rehab Center.
Born October 23, 1931, to the late Florence and Iver Peterson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she was raised and educated, attending Taylor Grade School and Roosevelt High School.
Shirley, a longtime Chicago area resident, retired from the First Commercial Bank in Chicago after many years of service. Formerly employed at Montgomery Wards in the catalog office and Western Electric in the business office. After graduating from high school, she worked at South Western Bell as a long-distance telephone operator.
A member of the First Christian Church of Morris. She cherished time spent with family and friends. Her interests included traveling, going to the theater, and shopping on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. She was an avid card player and was always open to a new adventure.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Matous (1982); her parents; and one brother, Myron Peterson.
Survived by one daughter, Julie (Gary) Hawkins of Morris; two granddaughters, Ann (Chris) Sallese of Morris and Lisa Hawkins of Mendota; one grandson, Keith Hawkins of Morris; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dominic, Mayson, and Jordan.
