In consideration of my sincere appreciation for Dick, I hasten to note an error in his obituary. His first towing business was B & M Towing, not G & M as stated.

I really don't remember a PTROI function without Dick Bartel being around and having fun. He was very energetic for his age and was always willing to help anyone that needed help. We, as most people do, had differences from time to time. We had a Biggie when I was 1st Vice president, but afterwards we were in the bar, he bought me a drink and we talked. That was the beginning of a friendship that was to last the rest of his life. He was such a friend that the friendship will last the rest of my life. He was a huge supporter of the PTROI, never shy about donating his time or his money. Dick, you will be missed and we'll catch you later.

I didn't know Dick personally but professionally he was a stand up guy and even gave me a discount because my car broke down so much and needed to be towed all the time. You have my deepest and sincerest sympathies.

I am saddened to hear , I was fortunate to spend time with Dick and ALWAYS enjoyed every minute , he was a true gentleman and was always so upbeat . He was a large supporter of Tow Trucks for Tots from day one ! I sold him a gaggle of towing equipment and he was very fair to deal with , our industry was better because he was so much a part of it ! My condolences to his family . R.I.P.

One of the most unique persons I have met. Always generous with sharing knowledge with less experienced tow bosses; humoring us or providing a great role model on giving back to the towing industry. He will be missed. My condolences to his family

You have our deepest sympathy. The stories we could tell about Dick. Like the time he jumped in the pool with a tuxedo on or, well, I could go on and on. He will be missed.
