Obituary of Janet Lynn Masters

Janet Lynn Masters, age 68, of Joliet, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center Joliet.

Born November 19, 1952 in Waukegan, Il she was the daughter of Eileen Gale Roberts Carnaghi and Melvin E. Masters. 

Janet earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degrees from Lewis University.  Janet was a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Janet worked for Gateway Foundation, Inc. as a Counselor Therapist.  There she performed and supervised social and environmental  (milieu) management and facilitated support groups in psycho-educational therapy (group therapy).  She also completed case management, group counseling, individual therapeutic encounter sessions, and gave many lectures in her field.

Janet worked at Silver Cross Hospital as a Counseling Therapist.  She also worked for the Center for Family Services System of Care.  She was as a counseling therapist for children and adolescents.  She specialized in performing group anger management, assertiveness training, and specialized in psycho-education.

Janet was a long time member of the Mosaic Community Church.  She was very active in the church.  Janet was a devout Christian. 

Throughout her lifetime, Janet was an Ordained Minister with numerous religious organizations. 

Janet was a Reiki Master.  Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing.  She attained the level of Reiki Master Teacher.  She performed several healing modalities.  Janet taught Reiki classes thus passing Reiki on to others.

Surviving are her daughter, Christine Snyder, brothers and sisters, Melvin E. “Skip” (Sandy) Masters, William E. (the late Linda) Masters, John A. (Janice) Masters, Patricia E. (the late Gene) McCaslin, Michael K. Masters, Joseph A. Masters, Nicole Lee, Timothy D. Hastert and Charles “Chuck” Hastert; her 4 grandchildren, Tia, Becca, Ben, and William, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers and sister, Robert G. Masters, DeAnn R. Jaffe, Ronald E. Masters.

Graveside services for Janet Masters will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m., at Brown Cemetery, her ancestral cemetery, near Elwood.
