Obituary of Herman Abelido
Herman Abelido, late of Joliet, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at home following a lingering illness.
He was born in the Philippines, emigrating to the United States and settling in Joliet in 1972. Herman received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines and retired from Caterpillar, Inc. following many years of service.
Herman was an avid racquetball player and fisherman. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball and was affectionately known as “Coach Herm.”
Surviving is his loving wife, Ethel Abelido of Joliet; two children, Theresa Abelido and Shane Abelido, both of Joliet; his sister, Fe (Bobby) Munoz; brothers, Salvador (Helen) Nabong, Lorenzo (Violeta) Nabong, Richard (Roni) Nabong, Maxim (Emma) Nabong, and Willie (Becky) Nabong; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Abelido.
Visitation for Herman will be Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following services, cremation rites will be accorded.
