Obituary of Eleazar H. Varela

Age 66, of Crest Hill, IL and formerly Quartzite, AZ passed peacefully Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2021 at Lightways Hospice Home of Joliet.

He was born August 1, 1955 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA to the late Josefa Hernandez and Gabriel Ruben Varela. As a teen Alley moved with his family to Quartzite where he finished school and began his career as a safety officer for the Department of Public Safety.

He is survived by his sons, Christopher Shaun and Cory Allan Varela; his wife Debora Nauert and her son and daughter, Zachary and Katherine Nauert Steig; siblings, Socoro Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Guadalupe Luna, Ruben Varela, Jr, Dora Varela Esparza, Ismael Varela, Artemio Hernandez Varela, Osbaldo Varela, Maria M. Varela, Horacio H. Varela, Josefina Varela Mershon, Bernardo H. Varela and Rene Varela.  Many grandchildren, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rosa I. Varela Fricke; brother, Roberto Varela, and niece, Nicole Varela Gouer.

Alley was employed as a computer technician with Unisys.  He will be remembered fondly as a “Trekkie”, a baseball fan, a Chicago Bears football fan, an animal lover, but most of all, a wonderful father, husband, brother and uncle.

As it was Alley’s wish, cremation rites have been accorded.  A celebration of his life will take place at a later date in California.
