Obituary of John Atkinson

John "Greg" Atkinson Age 43. Suddenly, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center following an acute cancer diagnosis. Born in Charleston, SC, he was a long time Shorewood area resident. Attended Joliet West High School. Employed by Starcon for over 18 years as a certified welder. Greg was an extremely passionate bow hunter and an avid NASCAR fan. Preceded in death by his mother, Jeralene Atkinson; his mother-in-law, Jean McDaniel; paternal and maternal grandparents; two brothers-in-law, Larry Tinsley and Robert W. McDaniel. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Alanna Atkinson; one daughter, Tori Atkinson; and one son, Elijah Atkinson all of Shorewood; his father, Bobby (Alice) Atkinson of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Lillis (Roger) Day of Bartlett, TN and Lisa Tinsley of West Columbia, SC; four brothers, Bobby Jr. of West Columbia, SC, Michael (Jen) of Washington DC, Wesley (finacee Morgan Howell) of Florence, SC, and Preston (Amber) Atkinson of Savannah, GA; aunts, uncles, cousins, 14 nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Greg Atkinson will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. As it was Greg's request, Cremation Rites will be accorded following the funeral services with inurnment at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
