Obituary of Jurline Pullen

Jurline Washington Pullen was the eldest of two children born to Lynn and Pauline Washington on September 14, 1943 in Louin, MS. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Joliet, IL until her health failed.

She graduated in 1962 from Harrison High School where she played the flute in the band.  She attended Dawson Technical Institute before going to IIT. Jurline worked at the Illinois Institute of Technology for 35 years as an Administrative Assistance to Faculty.

Jurline married the love of her life on April 2, 1966, Althornia “Tony” Pullen. To this union two children were born, one daughter, Tonishea and one son, Tony.

Upon retirement, she relocated to Shorewood, IL. She was an avid shopper, she enjoyed decorating her home and she was a meticulous cleaner of her home. She was a loving wife to her husband and loving mother to her two children. She also was a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved exercising and taking walks with her neighbor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Pauline Washington, and her in-laws, Lewis and Maggie Pullen. She also is preceded by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jurline leaves to mourn in her passing: her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Althornia “Tony” Pullen; her daughter, Tonishea (Lewis) Martin, her son, Tony (Kendall) Pullen; and three grandchildren, Tony Pullen, Zoria Martin, and Jayden Pullen. She also leaves to mourn: her loving brother, Len (Commletha) Washington; a niece, Lynette (Ernest) Love and a nephew, Len Washington Jr.; her loving aunts, Annie Ruth Langham and Dessi Easterling. Her adopted godsister and godbrother, Jesse and Theresa Walton; her godson's Bernard (Tina) Walton and Marcus Gross; her favorite cousins, Birdie Wright and Sarah McLaurin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for Jurline Pullen will be Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life and Homegoing Service at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Leroy Campbell Jr., officiating.  Interment will be held privately by the family.
