Obituary of Sr. Margaret Ann Lanagan, OSF

Sister Margaret Ann Lanagan (Kateri) died at St. Joseph’s Hospital on November 23, 2021. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Sister Margaret Ann was the oldest child born to the late Oleta (Camp) and Maurice C. Lanagan. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Louise and Frances. She is survived by her two sisters Eileen of San Antonio, TX, and Martha (Skip) Violante of Granite Springs, NY, and three brothers Thomas (Donna) of Grafton, WI, Mark (Peg) of Manhattan, IL, and James (Julie) of Plainfield, IL. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends also survive. Sr. Ann was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 61 years, most of which were spent as a Director of Religious Education and elementary school teacher.

Sister Ann attended St. Paul the Apostle Grade School, St. Francis Academy, and the University of St. Francis. After earning her BA in Education, she went on for further studies at Mundelein College in Chicago, IL, where she earned an MA in Religious Studies. She loved her 15 years of teaching, 31 years as DRE, and working with student-athletes at the University of Illinois Academic Services Center. One of her hobbies was participating in AKC Dog Shows as a steward. She loved the arts of painting, pencil sketch, needlepoint, and calligraphy.

A private memorial mass was celebrated. Interment has taken place at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.
