Obituary of Sr. Jacqueline Hirsch, OSF
Sister Jacqueline Hirsch (Ellen Marie) died at Our Lady of Angels on December 9, 2021. A native of Joliet, Illinois, Sister Jacqueline was one of four children born to the late Alfred and Marie (Gorshe) Hirsch on May 22, 1929. She was preceded in death by her brother, James (Jean) Hirsch of Joliet. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Linda) Hirsch, Estero, Florida, her sister, Rita (James) Kubalewski of Joliet, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Sister Jacqueline received her BA and MA in Theology from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, and her MA in Education from Cardinal Stritch College (Milwaukee). She taught elementary grades in Illinois and Ohio before moving to St. Coleman in Pompano Beach, Florida, where she taught junior high. Sister Jackie served as the Coordinator of the Social Studies Program for the Archdiocese of Miami and taught Social Studies for 17 years at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. There she coordinated the Close Up Program for student participation in government in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed being a Library Assistant in the Boca Raton Library, Florida, being active in her parish Hunger Program, and her work with the Senior Care and Literary Program, She was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 71 years.
A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.
