Sister M. Teresine Haban, OSF
Sister M. Teresine Haban, OSF (1914 - 2010) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on April 9, 2010. A native of Columbus, Ohio, she was one of twelve children born to Stephen and Anna (Kollar) Haban. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters: Anna Jarob, Mary Haban, and Bernardine Howard and brothers: Stephen, Joseph, Matthew, Paul, John and Thomas. She is survived by her sister, Helen Castrop (Gahanna, OH) and brother, Edward (Reynoldsburg, OH). Sister Teresine was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 79 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Teresine was a member of St. Leo Parish in Columbus, OH. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Columbus, OH. Sister Teresine earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, IL, a Master of Music degree in Piano from the Chicago Musical College and a PhD in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY.
Sister Teresine began her ministry in 1935 at St. Clement Parish where she was the Parish Organist and taught private music lessons. In 1939 she became a faculty member of the Department of Music at the College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. In 1974 she became Associate Professor of Music at West Chester State College in West Chester, PA. In 1980 she returned to Joliet, teaching private music lessons, serving as adjunct Professor of Music at the College of St. Francis and serving as Church organist for St. Anthony Parish, Joliet, IL.
The wake for Sister Teresine will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Friday morning, April 16, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by:
