Obituary of William J. Cahill

 William J. Cahill, age 79, of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Posen, IL, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL. He was born October 26, 1942 to the late Gertrude (nee Watterson) and William E. Cahill.
William is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (nee Downey) Cahill; loving children, William (Pamela) Cahill, Christine (Mark) Dunbar, Karen (Michael) Donovan, Colleen (Mark) Buzenski, and Kathleen (Jonathan) Cline; cherished grandchildren, Blair, Kyle, Ryan, Connor, Kayla, Brianna, Jenna, Riley, Christopher, Matthew, Brian, Brandon, Alyssa, Anthony, Alayna, Ashlynn, and Austin; adoring great-grandson, Joshua; dear sisters, Mary Ann Cahill and Catherine (Jack) Warren; dear brother, James (Denise) Cahill.
He graduated from Mendal Catholic High School, Chicago, IL. He was a truck driver for Certified Grocers for 33 years, retiring in 2006. He was an IHSA official for Basketball for over 20 years. He spent time as an Offensive Line/ Special Teams Coach for the Chicago Lions in the 1980’s. He enjoyed spending time with his son target shooting at the range, watching sports, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities.
But most of all William will be remembered for his love of his family and the Green Bay Packers.
Visitation for William J. Cahill will be Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd) Joliet. Funeral services will take place Monday, February 28, 2022 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Immaculate Parish, 15629 Division St., Plainfield, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield, IL.
