Obituary of David Wayne Hollis
Age 76, of Joliet, IL passed from this life on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center.
Dave was born September 12, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN and was raised on the family farm in nearby Stanchfield, MN. He attended Stanchfield High School and often reminisced about his teen years and the mix of the hard work and fun consistent with growing up “on the farm”.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (nee Pugliese)Hollis; one son, David E. Hollis; two daughters, Christine (Jeff) Ieler and Angela (Peter) Goc; grandchildren, Allison (Mark) Nelson, Eric Rigby (Mistie), Lydia Goc, Conrad Ieler and Zackary Goc; great-grandchildren, Emma Nelson and Bentley Rigby. Also surviving are his sister, Linda (John) Mitchell; several nieces and nephews as well as his foster family and the Pugliese family.
Preceded in death by his foster parents, Eleanor and Roy Larson.
Dave was a United States Army Veteran who served his country proudly during VietNam. A retired truck driver, he worked for several carthage/transport companies throughout his 40-year career. Since 2018 Dave thoroughly enjoyed working in maintenance at Bob’s Discount Furniture in Shorewood. His hobbies included fishing, playing video games and maintaining a beautiful yard, however, nothing made him happier than spending time with his family.
Visitation for Dave will be Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials in his name can be made to the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, or the National Kidney Foundation.
