Obituary of Richard E. Carey
Richard Earl Carey, age 71, of Joliet, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Silver Cross Hospital, New Lenox.
Born October 27, 1950 in Joliet, he was the son of the late Vernon and Carol (Steinquist) Carey.
His beloved wife, Betty J. (Bettenhausen) Carey preceded him in death on October 21, 2019, along with two brothers, Vernon and Bill, and a sister, Mary Lou.
Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserves, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a retired carpenter and a proud member of Local #174.
An avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, he enjoyed being a life member of the Ingalls Park AC and a member of Stone City VFW Post #2199.
He is survived by a sister, Phyllis (Jim) Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends, including Dennis and Jessie, Ray and Patti, Bill and Kathy, and Brad and Danette; and his beloved canine companion, Macey.
Richard was very grateful for the care he received from Lightways Hospice and his devoted home health nurse, Chala.
Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Lightways Hospice or the Will County Humane Society would be appreciated.
