John P. Hancock
"Jack"
Age 93. At rest Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Manteno.
Born December 25, 1915 in Detroit, MI. Raised in Elwood, residing in Joliet most of his life. Attended Elwood School as a boy, JTHS class of 1934 where he was recipient of the Adam Award and Joliet Junior College class of 1936. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served with the 300th infantry and the Army newspaper, Stars and Stripes. Employed in advertising positions with the Joliet Herald News for 20 years, Rudy's Markets and Scot Lad Foods for 20 years, WJRC and WWHN radio for 10 years.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Anita of Joliet; mother, Madaline Hancock and dearest cousins, Blanche and Jay Linebarger all of Elwood.
Survived by his daughter, Linda (late Stephen R.) Papp of Joliet and his son, John Hancock of Elwood; two grandsons, Stephen J. (Kristi) Papp of Minooka and Richard T. (Sara) Papp of Shorewood; seven great-grandchildren; Rachel, Allison, Casey, Eric, Blaise, Kiernan and Brennan.
Private funeral services for Jack Hancock were held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the funeral home chapel. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery, Elwood. Memorials in his name to Joliet Junior College Scholarship Fund would be appreciated. NO VISITATION. Arrangements by:
