Obituary of Austin T. Flavell
Age 69, of Shorewood, IL passed from this life Tuesday, July 5, at Kindred Hospital in Northlake, IL with family by his side.
He was born January 10, 1953, to the late Wanda and Thomas Flavell in Hinsdale, IL and was raised in Downers Grove. A graduate of Downers Grove South, Austin continued his education at Illinois Benedictine University in Lisle where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He is the cherished brother of Linda Flavell (Matt) Cohan, Laurie (Kevin) Mann, Terry Flavell and Leslie (Dave) Goodson; beloved uncle of Carrie Oldenburg, Phil (Catie) Mann; D.J. (Taylor) Goodson, Jeremy Goodson and Johnny (fiancé Brittany) Goodson; proud great uncle of Wesley, Everett and Ariana. Austin is also survived by his uncle, Harold (Vera) Flavell and several cousins.
He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co after 42 years of dedicated service. Austin was an active member of Holy Family Parish in Shorewood where he ushered, lectured and served on the board. He was a White Sox fan and a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his younger days, he enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, bowling and golf.
Visitation for Austin will be Monday, July 11, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services Tuesday, July 12, 2022, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Illinois Right to Life.
