Obituary of Elizabeth C. Lewandowski
Elizabeth “Betty” Lewandowski, age 82, of Elwood, IL and formerly of Greenwood, IN, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 4, 2022. She was born September 27, 1939 to the late Frances (Stanek) and Edward Czernik in in Chicago, IL. She was raised and educated in Tinley Park, IL.
Betty is the beloved wife of 46 years to Zigmont “Jay” Lewandowski; loving mother of Ted (Melinda) Pryor of Chicago and Andy Pryor of Tinley Park; grandchildren, Ted (Jessica) and Ryan Pryor; great-grandson, Jacob Pryor; dear sister of Nancy (Gene) Gagner of Chanhassen, MN, Kathie (late Paul) Ford of Manhattan, IL; and sister in-law, Tina (the late Dan) Czernik of Northlake, IL. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
Preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Theodore J. Pryor; and two infant children, Edward and John Pryor; and brother, Daniel Czernik.
Betty was a devout catholic and a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Joliet for many years. She will always be remembered for her fun loving personality. Her over the top organizational skills along with her efficiency, made her a perfect person to plan group trips for other active seniors.
She worked as a legal secretary for many years at Baker-Daniels Law Firm in Indianapolis, IN. She was a very passionate fan of Elvis Presley and some of her hobbies included scrapbooking, bowling and gardening. Betty was also an expert genealogist but above all she was an amazing caregiver to her mother during her illness and her whole family.
Visitation for Betty Lewandowski will be Monday, August 8, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services will begin Tuesday morning August 9, 2022 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave. (Rt. 59) Shorewood, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
