Obituary of Alfred Mendez

Age 72, of Joliet, passed away on August 29, 2022 at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.  Alfred was born on October 27, 1949 in ­­­­­­­­Salvatierra, GTO, Mexico, to the late Jose Jesus Mendez Ramirez and Maria Esther Castro Guzman.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he earned a Good Conduct Medal.  Alfred was employed with Woodard Inc., in Niles for many dedicated years.

Alfred was always very adventurous, going hang gliding and scuba diving any chance he got. He will be remembered by many for his fun-loving personality and always knowing how to make you laugh.  One of his favorite pastimes was bowling with his family. He was always a very supportive uncle to all his nieces and nephews, attending and cheering them on at all their soccer games. Alfred was always very loyal, loving and caring. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Alfred is survived by his siblings, Susan Mendez, Leticia (Gregorio Salmeron) Mendez, Mary Mendez, Jesus Mendez, Luis J. Mendez and Nancy J. (Juan) Sanchez; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Alfred Mendez will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 4:00 until the time of service at 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet.  As it was Alfred’s wish cremation rites will be accorded following the services. 

Family and friends are invited to meet for inurnment at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where full military honor will be held under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
