Robert J. Murphy
Robert J. Murphy, age 81, of Joliet, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022. Born and raised in Joliet, the son of the late Francis R. and Roselyn (nee Simon) Murphy, he was a resident of Wilmington for over 50 years before moving back to Joliet. Robert retired from Wilmington School District as an Instrumental Music teacher. He was a charter member and served as secretary and treasurer of the Wilmington Moose Lodge #241, a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Wilmington, and an active member of the Kankakee River Valley and Frankfort Civil War Round Table. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking. Robert was very active in his daughters’ and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years.
Surviving are his three daughters, Eileen (James) Valentino, Lorraine (Brian) McGuire, and Charlotte Murphy; four grandchildren, Mitchell, James "Tony", Meredith and Tara; three siblings, Karen (Jerry) Mueller, Janice (Ron) Wozniak and David (Connie) Murphy; brother-in-law Larry (Carol) Janovyak and sister-in-law Carol Murphy, along with several nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Ann (nee Janovyak) Murphy, and brother, James Murphy.
The Murphy family will be forever grateful for the compassion and care afforded to Robert by the staff at Sunrise of Naperville North.
A Memorial Visitation for Robert J. Murphy will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Visitation will resume Monday morning, October 3, 2022, at St. Rose Church, 603 S. Main St., Wilmington, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery.
