Obituary of Sister OSF

Sister Rhea Heinz, OSF Sr. Rhea (Henrietta) Heinz, OSF (1923 - 2008) died peacefully at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on November 9, 2008. Born in Portage, WI, she was the eldest daughter of Martin and Margaret (Harman) Heinz. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy (Eugene) Brown of Goose Creek, SC, and Betty (Floyd) Oliver of Metropolis, IL, brother, Keith (Inge) Heinz of Edgerton, WI and sister-in-law, Norma (Ronald) Heinz of Madison, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ronald. Sr. Rhea was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 57 years. Before entering religious life, Sr. Rhea served in the Military as a WAVE during World War II receiving her honorable discharge in April, 1946. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in September, 1951. She received her Bachelor's Degree at the College of St. Francis (now the University of St. Francis) in Joliet. Sr. Rhea taught in elementary schools in Ohio and Illinois for 40 years, including 13 years at St. John the Baptist School, Joliet and 8 years at St. Stephen School, Streator. For the last 14 years she has been a resident at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home where her final years were devoted to prayer and community service. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, November 13, 2008, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Friday morning, November 14, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
