Obituary of Jeanette I. Austin
Age 85, of Plainfield, IL passed from this life Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born May 11, 1937 to the late Genie (nee Mann) and Harlan Painter in Joliet, IL where she was raised and educated. Jan resided in the Joliet area nearly all of her life.
She is the beloved mother of Raymond (Diane) Sharp, James Sharp and Jerry (Christine) Austin; dearest grandmother of Jason (Amy) Sharp, Wendie (Adam) Wojack; Matthew and Justine Sharp; Noah and Sloane Austin. “Red” was also a proud great-grandmother of Justin, Payton, Payzlee Sharp; Masen & Raquel Wojack. She will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and Mya, her faithful feline companion.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Earl Sharp; and siblings, Otis “Oats” Painter, Louise Sharp, Mary Peck, Bobby Painter and Elaine Curwick.
Jan retired from St. Joseph Medical Center after over 20 years of faithful service in the housekeeping Department. She enjoyed arts & crafts, watching dateline and 20/20 with her family, debating the outcome and of course her daily dose of Days of Our Lives. Other favorite activities lately, included shopping at Kohl’s and Walmart and in her earlier days, she played bunco and bowled.
Whether you referred to her as Jan, Red, Orange Grandma or Mrs. Austin, one thing is for sure, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Gathering for Jan will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. A prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 8 p.m. will conclude the evening. As it was Jan’s wish cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Will County Humane Society.
