Obituary of Lisa Ann Bender
Lisa Ann Bender
(nee Such)
Lisa Ann Bender, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at her home in Joliet, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the age of 58. Lisa was born in Morris, IL, on September 30, 1964, the daughter of the late John Thomas and Wanda June (nee Buttry) Such. Lisa’s father left her his kind soul and her mother, her cooking skills. Lisa furthered her education and graduated from Northern Illinois University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and was a “Silverette”. Lisa was a flight attendant with Delta Airlines for several years. Her favorite places to layover were Bangor, Maine and Shreveport, Louisiana. She also was employed at the Chicagoland Speedway in hospitality services and was a member of the Joliet Jaycees.
Lisa was born and raised an unwavering fan of the Chicago Cubs. She loved to fly the “W” flag which didn’t happen as often as one would have hoped. Lisa loved America, Dancing with the Stars, puzzles (pre and post covid), and fresh flowers. She had the most radiant smile that could brighten even the darkest of rooms. Her gentle heart and steadfast loyalty to those she loved made her the best of friends. Still, nothing made Lisa happier than her children. She protected them, defended them, loved them endlessly and was their number one fan. Her motto was “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. She radiated kindness until her final days and always wanted to make those around her days brighter. Oh boy how she succeeded.
Lisa is survived by her daughter, Caroline Bender; son, Jack Bender; Sister; Mary Beth (Martin) Guzman; nieces and nephews, Ashlee Tubbs, Marleigh Guzman, Amelia Guzman, and Anthony (Alyssa) Guzman; the father of her children, David (Michelle) Bender; and her cousin, whom she had a close relationship with, Amy (Jeff) Gagliano. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends also survive.
A Celebration of life for Lisa Ann Bender will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will continue at Cemeno’s Pizza (1630 Essington Rd.) following the conclusion of the service because, oh how she loved her pizza.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 954 W Washington Blvd #305, Chicago, IL 60607. Lisa worked closely with the foundation as her son, Jack, is a two time cancer survivor.
